This 5-day budget camping safari is designed for adventurous travelers who want maximum wildlife exposure at a controlled cost without sacrificing core safari quality. You will explore the iconic plains of the Maasai Mara, track rhinos in Lake Nakuru National Park, and experience the serene freshwater ecosystem of Lake Naivasha — all while staying in well-organized public or private campsites.
Travel in a shared safari vehicle with a professional driver-guide, sleep in spacious dome tents, and enjoy freshly prepared meals by a camp chef. This itinerary is structured for travelers who prioritize authentic outdoor immersion, close proximity to nature, and exceptional wildlife density within a budget-friendly framework.
A driver picks you up from your hotel and heads south through the Great Rift Valley with a stop at the viewpoint to take in the escarpment wall. You'll pause in Narok for an early lunch, then continue to Masai Mara arriving in the late afternoon. After a brief rest at your accommodation, head out for your first game drive across the savanna looking for wildlife. Watch the sunset over the reserve before returning for dinner.
Breakfast starts early at the campsite, and then you're out for a full day game drive searching for the Big Five plus lions, wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, buffalos, elephants, hippopotamus, crocodiles, hyenas and antelopes. Packed lunch arrives near the Masai river as you explore the reserve. By 5pm you can choose between visiting a Masai village, taking a nature walk, or relaxing at camp before dinner.
An early morning game drive happens first, followed by breakfast. After eating, you depart Masai Mara heading toward Lake Nakuru National Park in the Great Rift Valley. A picnic lunch breaks up the drive, and you'll arrive at Lake Nakuru in the early afternoon with dinner and your night's stay to follow.
Following breakfast, a game drive at Lake Nakuru National Park gets underway looking for flamingos, pelicans and other bird species, plus potential sightings of black and white rhinos, buffalos, lions, warthogs, antelopes, baboons, impalas and gazelles. Around 11am you head to Lake Naivasha for lunch. After eating, a boat ride on the freshwater lake lets you watch birds and hippos before dinner.
After breakfast, you head to Hell's Gate National Park where exploration on foot or a short bicycle safari puts you among wildlife and through imposing gorges. Lunch happens along the highway, then you return to Nairobi arriving in the late afternoon for your hotel or airport drop-off.
